Ive been blogging since 2006 and have always had a passion for creating and photographing food. Im currently working in the food photography world as a food and lifestyle blogger.
From a food photography perspective, I just love seeing these beautiful photos that show the richness of the food that is being created in the kitchen. They are also so great for creating a great photo-op in your social media feed when people are craving a burger and fries in the city.
I like to think that I’m a food and lifestyle blogger because I love food. I also like to think that I’m a food photographer because I love capturing these beautiful food photos so I can share them with friends and family.
I don’t know what you call a food blogger, but I think I’m one, so I’ll call myself a food and lifestyle blogger. I love food and I love sharing photos of it with people.
The good thing about food bloggers is that they usually only post food photos, so there can be a great variety of the foods around. The bad thing about food bloggers is that they tend to stick to the same kind of food for a long time. So while this particular food blogger might have posted a great burger and fries photo a month ago, her blog might be full of pictures of fried chicken and mashed potatoes this month.
So yes, it’s worth learning the ropes of the food blogosphere. And yes, it’s worth getting published. But that’s not what I’m writing about today. I’m writing about the life of one of our favorite food bloggers raquel ferreira. That’s right, I said “our”.
I first met raquel in April when she posted a bunch of pictures of her food-blogger career. Back then, she was an ambitious and fun food blogger with a penchant for showing off her food-blog skills. Her blog was full of photos of her food adventures and recipes, but not her personal life. And that was okay because she was still doing food blogging.
In May when we were in New York for SXSW, I met her there for lunch. We chatted about food, blogs, and what her life was like. She is now the owner of a food blog, The Real Girl, with the same name as her food blog. She’s also the founder of a food-blogger cooking school called “Cooking with Raquel”, which teaches food bloggers how to cook from scratch.
Raquel is a chef and recipe writer who has been making a living out of food blogging for over two years now. She’s written on blogs like The Real Girl and Foodie, and her current work is as a recipe editor for Diners Dish. She also teaches cooking classes and works with food bloggers like my sister, who is the cook at my house.
